In a groundbreaking digital transformation for AB InBev, Tienda Cerca revolutionized how local stores connect with consumers across Latin America.

This initiative redefined retail interactions during challenging times, creating a digital bridge between local commerce and consumer demand.

Solution

As Technical Lead, I spearheaded the development of a scalable React application that connected over 425,000 registered stores with consumers. The platform featured geolocation-based store discovery, seamless WhatsApp integration for orders, and a comprehensive store management system. These capabilities enabled local stores to operate efficiently and engage directly with their communities, transforming the traditional retail landscape.

Approach

I led a distributed team of over 25 developers, employing modular components, decoupled monorepos, and a centralized Storybook component library to ensure consistent branding and rapid scalability. Our focus on accessibility and performance guaranteed a reliable experience even in areas with limited connectivity. This technical strategy was pivotal in driving the platform's expansion into more than 10 countries while maintaining a cohesive and robust user experience.

Impact

The transformative results of Tienda Cerca were profound. The platform not only digitally connected 425,000 stores with consumers during the pandemic but also played a crucial role in digitizing over 75,000 Colombian stores. This achievement led to international recognition, earning Colombia's first Grand Prix at Cannes Lions 2021 in Creative eCommerce, and solidified the platform's role in supporting the economic resilience of local communities.
